When you think of vaporizers, your thoughts might immediately jump to cannabis and weed – indeed, it is well known that some of the first vaporizers ever made were developed specifically for the cannabis market. Nowadays, there are a huge number of different vaping devices and the means of use for these vary massively; however, if you’re thinking of trying to vape weed, you’re in the right place. We can help you learn how to vape weed so you get the most out of your new experience!
What You Need
So, first things first – we need to know what, exactly, you actually need to vape weed. Indeed, you can’t just get your vaporizer and stick weed into it and hope to get good results. Though it might seem like this is a possible solution, it simply won’t work, so you’ll need to spend a little time to start with learning how to vape weed properly and what you need before jumping in; if you don’t, you might only end up disappointed and missing out on all of the great weed vaping experiences!
It’s pretty clear that you’re going to need a vaping pen, first of all. We won’t go hugely into detail about the different types of vaping pens here as that would take us ages and let’s face it – you want to get on with vaping, right? However, there are a few things that you should think about when choosing the right type of vaping pen for your needs.
First of all, and most importantly, do you want a portable vaping pen or a desktop vaporizer? Both have their pros and cons, but the most important question here is – are you planning on vaping weed on the go? If so then you will absolutely need a portable model; if you’re not planning on this then a desktop model could offer plenty of perks over portable alternatives.
Also, make sure you check your budget and the type of vaporizer you’ve chosen. Always invest in the best vaporizer you can afford for your budget, because when you’re already paying a significant amount of money to vape weed – cannabis isn’t cheap, after all! – then why would you ruin the experience by investing in a low quality vaping pen? Choose one that’s affordable and which has a reputation for being high quality for the best results here.
Next, you’ll need the cannabis you’re actually going to vape. Consider this carefully, as it will impact on the results that you experience. Think carefully about the strain and the effects of your chosen bud, and always make sure the bud is dry and not sticky; only dry buds will vape properly.
If you’ve chosen a conduction vaporizer then you will also need a grinder, and this is also true for certain convection vaporizer models. Always check this before investing in everything else.
There are many different things that you should make sure you have on hand for your vaporizer as this will impact on whether or not you get a good vaping experience, as well as the ease of cleaning the vaporizer after use. We highly recommend that you keep pipe cleaners, cotton swabs, and high strength isopropyl alcohol on hand for the best cleaning results.
Getting Started: Grinding the Herb and Loading the Vaporizer
Not every single vaporizer will need the herb to be ground, however, we highly recommend that you do as it gives a smoother vaping experience. Always grind with a grinder for consistent results, as hand ground herb can heat unevenly and, frankly, is a very messy process.
First off, check the level of grind that your specific vaporizer requires – most will need the bud to be ground to a fine or medium texture. Once ground, always following the instructions on your chosen grinder, you should then put this into the oven or herb chamber; this can be a fiddly process, so a weed scooper is ideal here; a DIY alternative is to use a small business card to help you control things.
Flatten the weed so that the surface area is smooth, or as smooth as possible, but don’t compress too much; you still need a little air flow around the ground buds.
How to Vape
So, your vaporizer is now loaded – but now what do you have to do? Don’t panic too much; the process of vaping weed is actually a relatively simple and straightforward one, and we will help you learn how to do so for yourself today!
First, you’ll need to choose a temperature; once you have done so, allow the vaporizer to heat up to this temperature, which usually takes about 30 seconds to a minute. Don’t try to use the vaporizer before this as it won’t have reached temperature and won’t be ready to use!
Once it has reached temperature, you will have to prime the vaporizer. This is easy to do by gently taking a few small puffs; once you have done so, then you can begin vaping properly. To do so, draw in as much vapor into your lungs as you can by dragging on the mouthpiece; once you cannot do so any longer, this can then be exhaled. Always keep your lips loosely on the mouthpiece, as clamping down too firm on this can impact on the experience and make the draw feel tight and unpleasant.
While using your vaporizer, always check that it is still heating effectively. Some will switch off after a set session duration; if this is the case, you can just turn them back on to continue vaping.
Cleaning Up After
Once you’ve finished vaping, you’ll need to clean the vaporizer. Luckily, this is incredibly easy to do and doesn’t need to be hugely messy. It is important for ensuring future vaping sessions are pleasant, though – no one likes burned bud residue, after all.
First, burn off the vaporizer by running it for three cycles with an empty chamber; following this, you should then clean the vapor path and finally the mouthpiece. Desktop vaporizers may also need the bag replaced after use.
Vaping can be enjoyable and easy, but it’s important that you know what you’re doing first of all to prevent damage to either the vaporizer itself or the herb. Get the most from your vaping sessions by following our tips above!
