When your e-cigarette’s atomizer is popping and spitting, it can make the experience of vaping thoroughly unpleasant. At best, you might swallow e-liquid. At worst, you may actually burn your tongue. Either way, you’re going to miss out on a lot of flavor and vapor. Pretty frustrating, right? Thankfully, it’s not that hard to eliminate atomizer popping or atomizer spitting — or at least avoid the most unpleasant effects. Want some tips? We’ve got 11 of them below. Read on!
Wattage Setting Too Low
Are you using a sub-ohm vaping setup? If you are, then you’re probably using a tank with fairly open airflow. When you inhale, the air that you force through the tank helps to increase the efficiency of the wick, drawing more e-liquid to the coil. If your wattage setting is too low, though, it’s going to take the coil longer to reach a temperature sufficient to vaporize e-liquid effectively. Since e-liquid will begin to enter the atomizer chamber before the coil gets up to temperature, you’ll flood your coil.
Now, think about what happens when you boil a pot of water. The water at the bottom of the pot boils first because it’s closest to the flame. Bubbles rise to the surface. If you flood your atomizer, the same thing will happen. The e-liquid that touches the coil vaporizes first. The vapor has to travel through the e-liquid that’s clogging the atomizer, though — so the atomizer spits e-liquid into your mouth.
In this case, you can prevent the atomizer from spitting by increasing your e-cigarette’s wattage so it vaporizes the e-liquid more efficiently.
Airflow Setting Too Open
Do you prefer a cooler vape? Maybe you’d rather not increase the wattage of your e-cigarette, then. Still, you’ve got to do something about too much e-liquid reaching the coil to prevent the atomizer from popping and spitting. Try reducing your tank’s airflow setting to reduce the amount of e-liquid that gets to the coil. Don’t simply puff harder on the e-cigarette to compensate, though. Let the difference in air pressure do the work for you.
Most sub-ohm tanks have collars at the bottom allowing for adjustments in airflow. Simply twist the collar to expose less of the opening.
Atomizer Too Wet or Flooded
Are you using a rebuildable atomizer? If you are, then you’re the one who controls the amount of e-liquid that reaches the coil. When you drip e-liquid into the atomizer, you need to be careful not to add so much that you drown the coil. Otherwise, the coil will spit e-liquid. Luckily, many rebuildable atomizers have very open chambers and wide drip tips — so your atomizer isn’t likely to spit e-liquid into your mouth. You will experience decreased vapor production, though.
Are you using too much e-liquid when dripping because you’re constantly getting dry hits? If so, remove the atomizer enclosure and look inside your RBA when you get a dry hit. Look at the wicks. Are the ends of the wicks still wet, even though the middles are dry? Trim off the wet portions, allowing the ends of the remaining wicks to just touch the atomizer’s drip well and act as tiny mops. You’ll experience less dry hits, and you’l stop flooding your atomizer as a result.
Atomizer Wicking Too Quickly
Overly fast wicking isn’t usually a problem with rebuildable dripping atomizers or sub-ohm tanks with pre-built coils. With rebuildable tank atomizers, though, the wicks can sometimes work too efficiently. If too much e-liquid center chamber, the coils will flood and the atomizer will begin popping and spitting. Since an RTA also has a chimney leading directly to the mouthpiece, you’ll most likely end up with e-liquid in your mouth as well.
In an RTA, the wicks bridge an area of very low air pressure — the tank — with the chimney, which is exposed to the outside environment. When you rebuild your RTA, it’s important to use enough cotton to really fill those holes. Otherwise, e-liquid will seep into the atomizer more quickly than the coils can vaporize it. Just be careful not to use so much cotton that you actually block the holes. Otherwise, you’ll end up with dry hits and hot spots.
If you have an RDA, using the correct amount of wick is still important. If you use too much wick, you’ll choke the coil. If you use too little, you’ll create gaps between the coil and wick. Either way, you could end up with atomizer popping and spitting.
Whether you’re using an RDA or RTA, here’s a good rule of thumb. If you’re using so much cotton that you find it difficult to force it through the coil, you’re probably using too much.
VG/PG Ratio
Are you using an e-liquid comprised of mostly propylene glycol? Are you using it with a sub-ohm tank? You may need an e-liquid with a different VG/PG ratio. Propylene glycol is thinner than vegetable glycerin. It also vaporizes at a lower temperature. Sub-ohm tanks, though, tend to have large wick holes and operate at higher temperatures. You need to use a thicker e-liquid with a higher VG/PG ratio with a sub-ohm tank because a thinner e-liquid will cause constant coil flooding. A flooded atomizer pops and spits constantly.
Poor Seal
If you have a sub-ohm tank or RTA, it most likely uses several threaded joints and o-rings to keep the e-liquid inside the tank. That isn’t all they do, though; they also keep the e-liquid out of the atomizer enclosure. Check your tank carefully to confirm that all of the o-rings are in place and not stretched out. Also, disassemble and reassemble the tank to make sure that nothing is cross-threaded. If e-liquid gets inside the atomizer enclosure, the coil will flood. You’ll end up with uncontrollable atomizer popping and spitting until you fix the problem.
Twisted Coil
Twisted coils are known to cause quite a bit of atomizer popping and spitting. If you have a tank or RBA with a twisted coil, braided coil, Clapton coil or anything of the sort, it may be difficult to avoid a bit of occasional spitting. People twist and braid resistance wires to create atomizer coils with the greatest possible surface area. If a coil has more surface area, it’ll generate more vapor.
Unfortunately, though, a twisted coil also has plenty of extra nooks and crannies in which e-liquid can collect. Every once in a while, the e-liquid will pool, and the atomizer will pop. If you’re using any type of twisted coil build, there isn’t much that you can do about occasional atomizer popping and spitting. If you’re twisting or braiding your own coils, you can alleviate the issue a little by making sure that your twists or braids are as tight as possible. If you’re using pre-made coils, read the workarounds at the end of the article for additional advice.
Narrow Drip Tip or Chimney
When you inhale from your e-cigarette, all of the vapor isn’t actually going to get inside your mouth. A little of the vapor condenses inside the chimney or drip tip. Eventually, some of the condensed vapor can form droplets that remain stuck and block the flow of vapor. When that happens, the atomizer eventually pops and spits e-liquid into your mouth.
You can often prevent an atomizer that’s popping and spitting by simply using a wide bore drip tip. Since e-liquid can’t condense and form droplets inside the bore of the drip tip, it falls back to the coil. If you’re using a tank with a narrow chimney, you may of course still experience occasional problems — but they’ll be less common. RTAs often have very wide chimneys; switching to an RTA may eliminate atomizer popping and spitting entirely.
Atomizer Popping and Spitting Workaround 1: Vertical Coil
Do you have a tank or atomizer with a horizontal coil? Horizontal coils have plenty of benefits, but you should know that the vapor travels in a direction perpendicular to the direction of the coil. Take a look at the two videos below:
From the videos above, you can see that with the vertical coil build, the atomizer is popping and spitting e-liquid away from where the drip tip would be. So, if you build your own coils, building vertical coils is an easy way to alleviate getting hot e-liquid in your mouth. Most of it will splash against the inner all of the atomizer instead.
Do you use a sub-ohm tank with pre-built coils? If you love the vapor production but hate the atomizer spitting, try one of the two additional workarounds below.
Atomizer Popping and Spitting Workaround 2: Angled Drip Tip
Have you ever wondered what those funny looking swiveling drip tips are for? Now you know. If an atomizer is spitting, the droplets hit the bend in the drip tip instead of going into your mouth. A very long drip tip can alleviate atomizer spitting, too. If your vaping setup doesn’t allow you to prevent spitting, you can at least keep the e-liquid out of your mouth.
Atomizer Popping and Spitting Workaround 3: Pipe Screen
As you may have noticed, more and more pre-built atomizer heads are coming with screens over the coils. The reasoning behind this is fairly simple — almost every atomizer pops and spits sometimes. If you can’t prevent it from happening, you can at least minimize the annoyance it causes. When the atomizer spits, the droplets of e-liquid hit the screen instead of exiting through the drip tip.
Your tank doesn’t use atomizers with screens? You can fix that by putting in a screen of your own. Simply get a pipe screen, cut it to fit the size of your tank’s drip tip or chimney and push it somewhere below the opening of the drip tip. Remember, though, that pipe screens are metal and could be conductive. Don’t push the screen down so far that it touches the atomizer coil.
Having trouble getting a pipe screen to fit inside your tank’s small chimney? No problem. Cut the smallest circle possible, and then cut a radius into it. Fold the circle into a cone, and then you’ll be able to push it down into the tank’s chimney.
Conclusion: You Can Avoid a Popping and Spitting Atomizer
When you have an atomizer popping and spitting hot e-liquid into your mouth, it really removes a lot of the pleasure in the vaping experience. If you build your own atomizer coils, though, knowing what causes atomizer popping means that you can alter the aspects of your build that cause it. If you use a tank with pre-built coils and love it apart from occasional atomizer spitting, simply use one of the workarounds listed above. Your atomizer may still spit, but it doesn’t have to bother you.

Hi ,how do I stop spit bk I’ve got a Aspire Plato and it’s really bad for spitback I use decent eliquid as don’t like the cheap stuff it’s nasty even my itaste kroma has a lot of spitback that’s why I brought my Plato now that’s doing it can you plz help ?
Hi Rachel,
Spitting is very common with all-in-one devices. Since the coil is at the bottom of the tank, vapor has a long way to travel, so condensation tends to collect in the chimney. Also, airflow can cause difficulties since the coil is so deeply submerged. In either case, the coil floods — and that’s why it’s spitting. We have a few tips that may help:
1. Check all of the o-rings to make sure that one of them isn’t stretched or broken. The o-rings are your first line of defense to prevent e-liquid from getting where it shouldn’t be.
2. Clean the coil and chimney after each time using a full tank. You might have good results if you hold a folded paper towel over the coil while blowing through the drip tip. That should clear out the chimney and remove the excess e-liquid from the coil.
3. Use a unicorn bottle or syringe to fill the tank more precisely and avoid flooding the coil. Don’t fill the tank all the way — especially if the coil and chimney are removed. If the tank is already full before you install the coil and chimney, the e-liquid in the tank will have to go somewhere, and it’ll take the path of least resistance. Most likely, you’ll end up with a flooded coil.
4. Try adjusting the airflow. If there isn’t enough airflow to equalize the reverse air pressure of your puffs, e-liquid may oversaturate the cotton and flood the coil. If the airflow is already fully open, try reducing it.
5. Try increasing the power level. If the power level is too low, the vacuum created by your puffs could draw e-liquid into the coil faster than the coil can vaporize it.
Good luck!
Also I have seen the Max VG juices will spit more. Try 60%VG/40%PG or 70%VG/30%PG mix to help lower issues.
That’s a great tip, Dave. Thanks for adding it!
I’ve just bought a pocket aspire e-cig and cannot use it due to spitting … I have the liquid purchased with the item so not cheap – there’s nothing to adjust to reduce flow … but it is awful to use
thank you so much! I’m new to vaping and increasing the watts just a bit and adjusting the air flow worked like a charm!
We’re really glad that the suggestions worked for you, Journey!
Awesome sauce thank you so much! Bumping up to 60 watts and closing the airflow a bit stopped it right away, vape on
Hello,
I’m really glad I’ve found this! We need some help! I’ve vaped for 4 years and never had a problem. My husband makes all my liquids, 60pg/40vg 24mg. I’m visually impaired and need simple! I use subohm tanks, I’ve moved from kanger sub ohm over to Aspire Cleito and then for Christmas had a Melo 3 with a pico mega. I vape anywhere from 30 to 50 watts. More recently 33 watts for some reason, though i do have a new vape with 2 batteries and it just seems more powerful, but the way I look at it 30 watts is 30 watts! the Cleito had a new coil, started popping really really loudly and emitting a puff of vapour and liquid, when you can’t see properly it’s quite frightening! The boys at the shop said I needed either steel or not steel coils, sorry I can’t remember. They changed them and that was that. Then I had the Melo tank it was was beautiful and I wasn’t afraid lol. Put a new coil in that and bang it’s popping too, i prime it etc. What, after all this time am I doing wrong? I’ve just closed the air flow and it’s a bit better on the melo, I’ve not tried the cleito. This is only a recent problem, we’ve not changed nicotine or ratio, I like throat hit. But I’m finding myself wary of vaping, and afraid of the bangs. I’ve started to fire it quickly not in my mouth to get the big bang out of the way. I stealth a lot at work, so need it to be quiet again! But I just don’t know if I’m being inept or something. Am I vaping too low for the coils? I was vaping at 30w on the melo coil that came with it no problem but the new coil, nope. Maybe it’s a bad coil? Maybe we need to higher team vg (throat hit lover though) I’m an advocate of vaping and safety and whatnot but I’m at a loss to fix this for myself. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Sadly, Nic, we do not have either of those tanks and couldn’t provide specific advice for your hardware over and above the general advice that we’ve written here. Hopefully a reader can chime in with a bit of advice.
You’re fortunate to have chosen the Melo III. It’s compatible with most coils that fit the Aspire Atlantis, which is a LONG list. My personal favorite is Vaporesso’s cCell Stainless Steel coil at 0.5 ohms. Its wattage range is 20-35, which sounds right around the area where you’ve been vaping. I’ve used the Melo II with the cCell, so I know first hand that it fits.
If you’re interested in seeing what other coils fit the Melo III, go to VapingUnderground and search for “Aspire Atlantis coils.” There’s a list compiled of coils that are compatible with the Atlantis. Generally, but not always, if a tank’s coils fit the Atlantis, its coils will fit other tanks on the list.
Best of luck!
I have the zeus rda and have found out that there is a fine line between too much cotton and not enough . too much and and it’s a dry hit . too little and it’s wet and pops.
It’s possible it’d the tank sits for too long, to flood the coil. Either try the paper towel trick where you blow excess juice out of the tank, or you can purge before hits. That means when you press the fire button, exhale through the driptip as the big bang goes off then switch to an inhale. If you don’t understand you can see lots of trickers doing it in YouTube videos
If the guys at your local shop were talking about stainless steel then it’s poorly your device has a temp control mode and you may accidentally be switching between normal wattage and temp con troll mode which can cause all sorts of problems with your vapor. I’d ask them to explain the temp control on your device more thouroughly!
I’ve noticed if u keep it in an upright position it doesn’t spit nearly as much as it does on the initial inhale
I have a Smok plus that was spitting badly, the air holes aren’t adjustable, so I put a piece of clear tape over one of them and now it is perfect…
thank you I was running my joyetech way too low. I put the power up to 31.6 from 18 with a 25om coil …no more spitting! joy joy
once again!
Hi I just bought a Smok priv one and put the coil in filled it half way with juice making sure I didn’t over fill and let it sit for a good 5 mins and it’s spitting back a lot and I can’t enjoy it do you think it can be because I am using mr salt-e 0.5 nicotine?
My smok priv one does tha same thing, even with heavy 6 nic juice, I don’t know how to fix it.
I don’t know if my coil has a manufacturing error but there is metal blocking every cotton hole as if something inside the coil has slid and it’s blocking the cotton so instead of the holes being fully exposed, I can only see a tiny bit of cotton rather than 4 exposed holes. Is this a manufacturing error or am I to do something?
hey i have a smok skyhook with dual fused klaptons and it keeps spitting no matter what am i doing something wrong thanks.
Have you tried using a different type of coil, Paul? Twisted, braided and Clapton coils do tend to spit more often than some other types of coils. Using a bit more wicking material may also help.
With the sky hook the wicking is very tricky. You need just the right amount to allow the wicking material to absorb the juice against gravity but not too much as to jam up the wicking ports. Fused Claptons should be fine but things to look for are; too much airflow, also coil internal diameter, too wide with result in too much cotton and dry hits. I’d recommend around a 2.5mm or even 2mm internal diameter micro coils and let the wicks hang about halfway into the reservoir tank. Good luck!
I had the same problem if its the pre installed ones shut off a bit of the top airflow 2 or more slots closed and turn it up to 85+ stops the spitting youll get the odd pop but thats it!
It is getting too much air.
Its prob just the claptons try rewicking if that dont fix it try a diff style coil. I used the skyhook as a dripper for bout a year and it served me well i find some coils just do spit after swapping around u will find wot u like
Thank you so much for this! I’ve got an evic aio that I had deemed useless.
Hi Melissa,
The eVic AIO is one of the e-cigarettes that we hear about the most when it comes to the coil spitting. Which tip fixed it for you?
i exclusively use tcr settings. initial power matters a lot here. too little and it never reaches temp though no spit back. too high and it causes spit back. too much cotton reduces spit back but too much cotton taste. too tight coil and there is no flavor…. vaping is an art 🙂
here is what I do… spit back is actually good when it is limited. flavor is quite good.
once you get the juice flowing nicely then try reducing power. I use tcr settings… initial firing voltage matters a lot.
if you like higher power like everyone else then vape harder. try to make airflow smoother that is no angled blockage. wide bore works best. see ijoy combo rtda with wide bore. that works better though I have to vape very hard.
try coil with fixed gap. impossible to acheive with handmade one so I tried readymade one with two held by bridge.
minor spitback actually brings out best flavor so try different ones. wires are so cheap and it is fun to try different designs. though I go only for simple design and play around with resistance and gaps and cotton.
treat spitback as friend. esp minor ones. happy vaping.
Thank you so much for this article i upped my wattage and I’m pleasantly surprised by the best hit I’ve taken in a while again thank you
We’re really glad that the tips worked for you, Dennis!
It’s a magic, champ.. honestly I’m back to real vaping .. airflow & wattage r the key .. thanx a lot..
I’ve bought a lite ego small little thing but got give weak juice so went to different shop got a 50/50 what was recommended in the vapur shop so I took it all apart cleaned it drained it and changed air flow and wattage but spitting like mad and quite hot and gurgling constantly really frustrated only had it 6 days and already spent ÂŁ65 thought it would cut smoking and costs
LITE AIO !!! Sorry
Billy,
The all-in-one devices are often some of the worst offenders when it comes to popping and spitting. Take a look at our VaporFi VAIO review to learn about the experience we had with a similar device. The tips that we provided in this article should help with almost any all-in-one device. If you have no success, you might consider using an e-cigarette with an external tank instead. External tanks don’t have the same airflow issues that some built-in tanks have.
i own this device and is garbage split all time juice like u afraid to vape from this device and get ur mouth burn
My vape was spitting boiling liquid out and kept burning my tongue and sometimes burned my skin. I read in your article that if you up the wattage it prevents it from spitting, which it did. Thank you.
We’re really glad that our tips improved your vaping experience, Darren!
I have just bought a 40w vapestix machine and it spits and pops liquid. I have turned it up to 40w and almost closed over the airflow regulator. It sort of works but what I want to know is does it take time to purge the flooded coil? I must admit I in my excitement filled the unit pretty quickly.
I also bought Vapestix 40W and find it completely unusable. Hits your lungs in a way I imagine cyanide gas would. Worst product ever.
Hey guys so my wife and I just bought the Smok Alien mod and they have been working great but hers has been having a gnarly crackling sound. We tried upping the watts a bit, checked the seals and o rings and they seal well and the rings aren’t stretched out or anything but it’s still having the harsh hits and crackling sound. It’s got the Baby Q2 atomizer on it. Any ideas? We’re still fairly new to vaping and really enjoy it it’s just kind of irritating that we can’t seem to solve the issue
Close the airflow a little and if that doesnt work try a lower vg to pg ratio.its the way i fixed my smok x priv when my prince rank was doing it.
thank you guys. some fantastic ideas here.
However, I almost gave up vaping and went back to cigarettes because of the spitting issue. I did everything mentioned here and the spitting seemed to stop for some time. And then it used to start happening again and I was getting sick and tired of the liquid getting to my mouth on every pull.
then a thought struck me. I picked up a cigarette and a pair scissors, cut out a small slice of the filter and placed it just below the mouthpiece.
then, I increased airflow to the max, adjusted the wattage and it’s working like a charm. The filter blocks all the liquid and prevents it from entering my mouth, even if I pull very very hard.
Try it and let me know. it’s evidently clear that this will eliminate the spitting issue completely.
We’ve never heard that idea anywhere else before, Andy. Thanks so much for sharing it!
Just did that! And it worked like a charm! thanks!
Awesome idea, going to try it. Now I gotta bum a smoke off one of my friends and they’ll be like, “Ah ha, knew you would start again!”.
ANDY OR ANYONE ELSE … IVE ONLY JUST GOT MY ECIG & NOT REALLY USED ONE B4 , JUST BOUGHT A FEW DIFFERENT DEVICES IN THE PAST ( CIG LOOKING ONES ) & NEVER GOT ON WITH THEM SO NOT REALLY USED THEM , NOW I NEED TO STOP FOR EXPENSE … JUST GOT A SMOK STICK M17 & IT SPITS A LOT & IVE FOUND BROWN LIQUID FROM MY TABBACO FLAVOURED ONE IN MY PIPE I SUCK ON ( IDK THE CORRECT WORDING … LOL ) & I AM SOOOOOO PARANOID ABOUT GETTING THE POISONESS LIQUID IN MY MOUTH & HAVENT GOT A CLUE WAT TO DO … WOULD THE FILTER WORK ON MINE & IF SO DOES IT NEED TO BE JAMMED IN TIGHT SO I DONT SUCK IT INTO MY THROAT … PLZZZ HELP ‘ ANYONE ‘ I HAVENT GOT A CLUE * SOS * … LOL …
Thank you eCig One Staff. I’m having a ball of time vaping today. like I said, it works like a charm. Not a single minuscule drop of liquid in my mouth today.
My tongue had become a little sore from all the hot liquid. I have tried a couple of mods/tanks/coils to eliminate this problem, but nothing seemed to be working and like had said before, I almost gave up.
I’m sure this solution will help all the others who are facing the same problem. And that is why I decided to post it here since you seem to have a lot of readers reading your excellent and highly detailed articles. You are doing a great job helping the community out.
here it is again
Slice out about 2 – 3 mm of any cigarette filter
Remove the mouthpiece (the piece which you put into your mouth to draw)
Drop the cigarette filter slice into the area (where the mouthpiece fits)
Fit the mouthpiece back in firmly
This will make the pull/draw a little harder. To compensate, increase your airflow.
Adjust the wattage accordingly.
The filter will now block the minutest of droplets of liquid even if you pull very hard.
Glad to be of help. This definitely did help me continue vaping and stop smoking completely. I hope it helps all of you too.
Note: You will/may have to replace the cigarette filter slice every morning. I just checked mine and it does have a lot of liquid, so I just removed it using a toothpick, sliced another piece, dropped it in and am back to happy and rigourous vaping.
For anyone who might like to try this solution, there’s no need to buy cigarettes to use the filters in your vaping setup. Amazon sells unbleached cotton cigarette filters at $4.80 for 200 filters at the time of writing. Again, our sincere thanks for the contribution!
Wow. Thanks so much. I’m never gonna touch a cigarette in my life again. Not even for a slice of the filter 🙂
No spitting + absolutely no contact with cigarettes (visual or physical) = HAPPY VAPING TO A HEALTHIER AND LONGER LIFE.
The filter get soaked after 3 puffs
I forgot to mention that the cigarette filter trick will work longer and more effectively only after you follow all the other excellent, logical and practical tips provided by eCig One Staff in this article detailing how to avoid Spitting.
I did all of these to ensure that my tank was really clean and dry before I inserted the cigarette filter slice.
I have an alien vape the tank is baby beast and it pops and spits no matter what we do we have tried everything even have new coil in it. We have changed watts air flow etc and its still doing it making it unpleasant to use it didn’t do that when we first got it after 3 days it started a bit got worse then realized cotton is no good anymore so replace pre made coil/cotton and its worse now
I found taking the outer cotton out of the coils with full air flow I get a smooth hit out of the baby beast
Make sure you close the airflow to refill or it runs out
I have a smok g150 with a baby beast tank, I usually use it around 70-75 watts with full air flow. Didn’t have issues at first. I replaced my coil and that’s when this started. Not sure what to do about it.
I’m using eleaf ijust-s ecig with 0.3mm filters. The filter is spitting on some and then other filters (same size) work great. How can I stop the spitting, I cannot adjust the wattage on this module.
Very helpful thank you.
Hi, How do I stop popping and spitting of my new Smok G Priv with the baby beast tank, I am using eliquid with 70/30 ratio and 3mg nicotine, Im new to vaping and this is my first device tried cleaning the tank and coil but it doesn’t help, also I did not face this issue for 24hrs after using it for the first time, after that m facing the same issue again n again.. Please help..
same here…the air flow and wattage changes aren’t helping me any.
I had this same problem and tried the all of the above. I changed the mouthpiece to a smaller one and that helped but it was still spitting. I finally figured out that the temp setting was set for nickel atomizers and I was using stainless. Problem solved!! Hope this helps!
Ok so I started vaping not that long ago and my coil liner is all messed up and it’s a starter vape box mod what do I do
I recently bought a SMOK stick AIO and filled it up with liquid and waited 15 minutes, when I first started smoking the vape it came up liquid straight away. It´s not too much liquid. The liquid comes up the pipe
Thank you for this post. It really helped me fix my issue with the spitting of e-juice.
Hell yeah. Thanks for this article. My brand new to vaping and my AL85 with a baby beast tank was spitting and popping like crazy on just 50 watts and like you said, was very unpleasant. I couldn’t figure out what to do. It’d burn me up too and I didn’t like that. So like you said, instead of increasing the wattage I just limited the amount of air flow and believe me I feel dumb, lol. It’s smooth just the way I like it! Thank you again!
We’re glad the tips worked for you, Kat!
Within 10 seconds of reading this article, my issue was fixed! Thanks!
I was running the Cloudbest v12-Q4 at 95w. Bumping it up to 105w instantly fixed the popping.
I found my spitting rdas had one thing in common that my others did not. Coils too low. I raised them by about 50% and problem solved.,Using single core Claptons
That’s a tip we haven’t heard/read before. Thank you for sharing it!
Hey I’m using a exo cleito tank and it doesn’t have an adjustable airflow but spits alot not sure what to do, it just ruins the taste and experience
Up the wattage :0) worked on my exo
Smok Spirals tank started spitting. This post gave me the info needed to minimize it. Up watts and constricted air flow. Mush better! Thanks!
Hello! I have a aspire pockex And it s spitting liquid in my mouth What can i do? Please help
I have a merlin Mini atomizer and juice are coming out from the drip tip. I bought a new drip tip which is gourd shape drip tip and the juice is still spitting out from the mouth piece. Tried adjusting the watts as well as the air holes but still didn’t work. Need help here please.
I have a speeder vape and I have it at 27 watts and I get a spit that hits my lip and it hurts how do I stop it from happening
Thank you so much! Bought both myself and my mom Smok vapes for Christmas and both of them spat like crazy. I went back to the man who sold them to me and they worked perfectly when he tested them. I couldn’t figure out why they spat so much when I was using them until I read this article. Adjusting the airflow worked like a charm. Thank you thank you thank you!!
I have the smok alien vape and recently changed the tank to the new aspire revvo tank and for the first couple days worked beautiful then started popping like crazy to a point it started tasting like burnt smoke, i changed the coil twice and havnt changed the watts or any of the settings idk y it keeps doing this maybe its the tank? Its a new tank the reviews are amazing but no one has the problem im facing thought i would give u guys a shout.
Hi, I have a Smok V8 Baby. I just changed my atomizer and it has been spitting back since then. My throat hurts when I try to vape, the juice is leaking, and the aftertaste is terrible. I would really appreciate it if you can tell me how to fix this. Thank You
Curran Pareek,
Did you let the tank sit after changeing the atomiser and filled it?
You must give the cotton time to soak up the liquid…..longer if your juice is thick.
I always lower the power on freshly cleaned and new atomiser installed until things get going smoothlty.
For those that tighten the air up, do not draw or pull harder than when your air slot was wide open……this will just cause more spitback and gurgleing. Draw the same as you normally would.
There needs to be a how to on drawing/pulling. The biggest fouling issues are cause by pulling wrong. Just relax and draw/hit like you would a ciggarette if you do mouth to lung.
If gurgleing/spitback happens, make air slot tighter and draw normally until the girgle spitback stops. Loosen air slot back and remember to draw slow and easy.
For direct to lung easy draws are good on low power, but, cloud chases tend to pull DTL
a bit harder. If you are new users and have sub-ohm tank and DTL you draws than lower the power and draw easy or high power quick……not hard…draws and let go of the power button. This keeps the wick burn issues down and boiling youre juice to long. Adjust as needed. After awhile your lungs will get used to big draws of thick vapor.
I dont do big clouds, its silly to me to waste all that money in ejuice and hardware.
Everybody draws differently, the more you focus on relaxing you will get it.
Just relax and find your sweet spot.
After reading this I took of the top of my tank and blow on the wicks while firing it to dry out my wicks a bit more. Now it isn’t spitting and I know not to flood my rda so much, thank you!!!
I have a smoke procolor 225W kit with the baby beast that comes with it,no matter what i do or look up never helps it from such a harsh drag, what i mean is…when firing the vape for use it spits and feels really harsh on my throat l…but not all the time. Sometimes it will work like a charm but not for long, I’ve have other vapes in the past so i know something is not right
Hi,
I have tried every thing but no improvement.
I have a new revenger x, i vaped for 10 days with no problem at all, after that i changed the coil for the first time, after then, spitting back was too much.
I have increased the wattage, reduce air flow,…etc with no result.
I doubt that i may defected the ring (between bottom base and glass)during the first coil replacement, is this can cause the problm?please advice what to do
Hi,
Great post, just want to add up. I had the same problem on my Eleaf Pico 25 and Ello tank (My First Mod), I’m new to vaping and was about to quit. There is more to it than fire up and pull. It’s pretty hard to setup and hit the right spot. Followed all tip’s in this post and one thing that helped was adjusting my draw. Had to draw more air to get the right airflow. It made sense since one of the tips suggested to adjust flow at the tank, in my case I had to increased it.
(sorry if my enghish is not verry god). Grate post Thank you.
so the aspire speeder lets u adjust how long it takes(.5-10 seconds) to heat up when u pull and also how hot it gets(1-70w) in that span of time, and after messing with it i found that .5 seconds to 70w solves this problem. its also using a smok q2 at 50 watts with the air thing fully open, also with thick juice and its set at .37 ohms or amps. but i think the heat ramp up control makes a big difference
I got a mod a E-PRIV when I hit my mod it makes a loud pop sound
The problem I hate with popping and spitting is liquid wasted. lol
I realized after using dual alien-wire, my liquid budget goes up, battery drain really fast. When I was using dual coil kanthal, 60ml bottle last for a week, now only 4-5 days.
I’ll back to standard dual coil 🙂
I have Aspire Pockex and I have just recently put vape juice in but instead of the vape giving me smoke it gave a spit-back of the vape juice. How can I fix this?
As a beginner building my own RDAs I would constantly get dry cotton hits no matter how much juice I put in the cotton. Finally after YouTube and practice I learned how to put just the right amount of Colton through the coils so it doesn’t spit and when the hits are starting to taste like cotton, my wicks are completely dry which means it’s absorbing perfectly. You don’t want to be able to easily pull the wick through or put so much wick through that it starts to bend the coils. You want to pull the wick through and have enough resistance that it doesn’t just slide through, you want just enough that the wick slides through with minimal resistance so you can slide it back and forth and you get the same resistance each time you pull it back and forth through the coil. Now there’s minimal spitting and extremely tasty big hits!
Hi I have a voopoo Vinci air pod and after I take a few drags and leave it, it starts sizzling and smoking out of control so I have to take the pod out!
Any ideas why or how to fix this
